As part of their brand breakthrough strategy this script was written to take the audience back to James Joyce's Dedalus; a character that encapsulates the spirit of UCD.
_______________________________________________
A century ago, UCD graduate James Joyce peered through the lenses of his Windsor spectacles and wrote 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'...
...a story about UCD student Stephen Dedalus - the author’s fearless alter ego.
It was a bold, brave book.
Today, Dedalus still walks our halls and he is still fearless.
He does not seek answers - he seeks questions. For he knows a question is more laden than the answer.
It is this spirit of Dedalus that has vitalized our teaching...
...roused our debates...
...and driven our research.
We don’t produce graduates.
We build people:
People who dare to rove and wander, who dare to shape and form, who dare to continue to ask the questions no one else asks...
Perhaps its no coincidence that Joyce named Dedalus after the Greek hero who built wings to fly above the human limit.
UCD – Dare to succeed.
